Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Vertex Prep LLC (“Vertex,” “we,” or “us”) handles information when you visit vertex-prep.com or use our SAT preparation service. We are based in the United States. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to support@vertex-prep.com.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide when creating and using an account, including email address, name, age eligibility confirmation, study goals and schedule, saved work, support requests, and messages sent to the AI tutor. While you study, we collect diagnostic and practice answers, test results, timing, course progress, and activity needed to provide your personalized plan and progress reports. If a student and parent link their accounts, we process the relationship and the progress information shown through that link.

When you subscribe, Stripe processes your payment details and billing address. We receive account and subscription identifiers, plan, payment status, billing country or address information needed for eligibility review, and transaction records. We do not receive or store your full card number.

Our systems and hosting providers may collect technical information such as IP address, browser and device type, pages or features used, timestamps, and error or security logs. We do not request GPS or precise device location.

How we use information

We use information to create and secure accounts; deliver study plans, questions, tests, course lessons, tutor responses, and parent progress views; process subscriptions and support requests; prevent fraud and abuse; diagnose service issues; and meet legal obligations. We do not sell student information or use it for targeted advertising. Optional advertising pixels and session replay are not enabled.

Service providers and AI tutor

We use service providers to operate Vertex: Supabase for authentication and data storage, Stripe for payment processing, Vercel for hosting, Resend for transactional email, and OpenAI for AI tutor responses and safety checks. Desmos provides the graphing calculator used in course content. These providers process information as needed to provide their services under their own terms and privacy practices.

When you ask the tutor for help, the request may include the current practice question, relevant course excerpts, your selected answer, your message, recent tutor hints, and a hashed account identifier used for abuse prevention. We do not send your account email, name, or billing details with the tutor request. Do not include sensitive personal information in tutor messages. We request that tutor conversations are not stored as retrievable provider-side conversations, but this does not prevent temporary safety and abuse-monitoring logs. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models by default and that abuse-monitoring logs may retain content for up to 30 days, with longer retention possible where required by law or for safety. Vertex records usage and spending controls without storing tutor message text in those records.

We may also disclose information when necessary to comply with law, protect users or Vertex, investigate abuse, or in connection with a business transfer.

Students and parents

Vertex is intended for students age 13 and older. We do not permit children under 13 to create accounts. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information without legally required parental consent, we will restrict the account and take steps to delete that information as required by law. If you believe this has happened, contact support@vertex-prep.com.

A parent can see a student’s progress only after the student and parent accounts are linked with both users’ agreement. Either user can disconnect the link in account settings.

Cookies and browser storage

Vertex uses essential cookies and browser storage for authentication, security, preferences, and resuming work. Optional product analytics, advertising pixels, and session recording are disabled. Stripe, authentication, and embedded course tools may use technologies needed to provide their features. Blocking essential storage may prevent sign-in, checkout, or saved work from functioning.

Retention and security

We keep account and learning information while needed to provide the service and maintain your account. We may retain billing, support, security, and transaction records for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution needs. Retention periods vary by record and purpose. We use technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Your choices and privacy rights

You can update some account information in Settings. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information by emailing support@vertex-prep.com. We may need to verify the request and may retain information where the law permits or requires it. Depending on your state and whether a privacy law applies to Vertex, you may have additional rights, such as access, correction, deletion, portability, appeal, or opting out of sale, targeted advertising, or certain profiling. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. If we deny a request, you may ask us to review that decision by replying to our response or emailing support.

We disclose information to the service providers listed above to operate Vertex. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. In the preceding 12 months, categories processed have included identifiers and account information, commercial and subscription records, internet or network activity, and education-related information such as student practice and progress data. We do not intentionally collect biometric data or precise geolocation.

U.S. processing and changes

Vertex is operated from the United States, and information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our service providers operate. Our paid subscriptions are currently offered only to U.S. residents with a U.S. billing address. We may update this Policy when our practices change. We will post the updated version and revision date here and provide additional notice when required by law.
